PRACTICAL GUIDANCE
Keep your passport details consistent
A small identity mismatch can create a large problem at check-in or boarding.
Use one document consistently
Book with the valid passport you will carry. Follow the booking form’s name and document fields carefully, including its instructions for multiple given names and special characters. Do not invent a Chinese ID number when a form is not designed for passports.
Check before payment
Do the identity check while you can still correct it.
- Compare the spelling, document number, nationality and date of birth with the passport.
- Check all passengers individually, including children.
- Save the provider’s written correction process and support channel.
- After a passport renewal, contact the provider about existing tickets and reservations before travel.
Have a fallback at the point of service
If an automated gate or booking screen does not accept your passport, use the official staffed channel. Allow extra time for verification. Ask the provider to resolve the original booking rather than creating a second identity record.
Useful questions
Can I borrow a resident ID number to finish a booking?
No. Use a channel that accepts your actual identity document or ask the official provider for assistance.
Do hotels and attractions share the same passport rules?
No. Their reservation interfaces and correction processes differ. Confirm with each provider and bring the original document.
