PRACTICAL GUIDANCE
Build a budget you can trust
Use your own current quotes to create a realistic total, with room for the unexpected.
Price the route you will actually take
There is no universal daily price for China. Season, city, room type, transport class and how early you book all matter. Start with dated quotes for your route instead of treating a sample price as a live rate.
Make seven budget lines
Keep currency and assumptions visible. Divide the accommodation total by travellers only when you will really share the room.
- International travel and any required visa or document costs.
- Accommodation: nightly quote × nights, including the cancellation terms and any deposit.
- Intercity transport from current operator quotes, plus station and airport transfers.
- Local transport, food and ordinary daily spending based on your own travel style.
- Attractions, guides and activities that need advance booking.
- Connectivity, insurance, medication and other preparation.
- A contingency amount you can access if a card, connection or itinerary fails.
Check what a cheap quote leaves out
Inspect baggage, station location, change rules, service fees and payment currency. A lower ticket price can create an expensive or tiring connection. This site does not provide live hotel, rail, exchange-rate or flight prices.
Useful questions
Are prices shown by the sample planner booking quotes?
No. The planner provides example routes and pacing only. Open the operator or booking provider for dated prices and availability.
How large should my emergency reserve be?
Choose an amount that could cover your own realistic disruption, such as an extra hotel night and replacement transport. There is no single appropriate amount for every traveller.
