PRACTICAL GUIDANCE
A few assumptions to leave behind
Practical distinctions that prevent avoidable surprises.
“One app or card will handle everything”
Alipay and Weixin Pay can make everyday payments easier, but a linked foreign card does not guarantee every merchant, transfer or account feature works. Keep another payment method and test a small purchase on arrival.
“Visa-free means no formalities”
Visa-free entry still has conditions: document type, nationality, purpose, duration and, for some schemes, permitted places. Accommodation registration also still applies. Your airline and border inspection may ask for supporting evidence.
“The fastest train makes the fastest trip”
Compare the entire journey. Large cities have several stations, and a fast connection from a distant station can take longer door to door. Always match the exact station name on your booking.
“Every familiar website will work normally”
Internet access differs on mainland networks. Prepare essential addresses, tickets, contacts and translation before arriving. Check your provider’s actual coverage and comply with local law; no connectivity product is guaranteed by this portal.
Useful questions
Is cash irrelevant now?
No. It remains a useful backup when a phone, app or card fails. Obtain it through a legitimate exchange or compatible ATM and check your issuer’s fees.
Does a visa checker replace embassy advice?
No. It can organize the first questions. Your circumstances and current official rules determine the next step.
